Dulux Innovation Centre
Duluxgroup - Wellington
Lab-works Architecture, in conjunction with Workspace Architects, redeveloped the new Dulux Innovation Centre at Gracefield, Wellington. The building has been gifted the name Ngutuihē by the local mana whenua, which honours the area’s rich history, situated near an ancient Pā site.
Dulux required a purpose-built R&D facility to service and meet product development and bring together their laboratory, offices and support spaces which were previously separated.
Dulux’s new Innovation Centre brings together offices, colour services, laboratory functions and the application area into the same facility. This includes a range of specialised spaces to support the diverse product development conducted by their scientists. Key features include a temperature-controlled room, a drying room for paint testing and sample preparation, and a disperser room for producing and mixing paints. The main open laboratory operates as a shared service area, accommodating various teams and functions. This primary laboratory area also features fume cupboards, ovens, and extensive benching, all of which are essential for supporting future product development and innovation.
