Tāwharau Ora Wins at the Western Architecture & Commercial Project Awards

Tāwharau Ora - School of Veterinary Sciences has received awards at both the Te Kāhui Whaihanga, New Zealand Institute of Architects Western Architecture Awards and the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards.

The re-development of Massey University’s Tāwharau Ora - School of Veterinary Sciences replaces the aged infrastructure and outdated facilities with state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities designed to maintain Massey University’s standing as a world-class veterinary school.

Lab-works Architecture in collaboration with CCM Architects, worked with the University, benchmarking against world-leading international vet schools, to deliver purpose-built facilities that “exceed all expectations”.

Providing future-proof and flexible facilities that adopt a new holistic approach to veterinary science and teaching. Using design as a vehicle, Massey University’s relationship with the region’s Mana Whenua has been embedded within the building fabric of these new facilities. Ushering in a new era of mutual understanding and respect.

The facilities are unique to Massey University and to Aotearoa New Zealand. They are flagship buildings that, through their design, promote the Tāwharau Ora students domestic and international.

Lab-works Architecture, along with partner architect CCM Architects received a 2023 Western Architecture Award in the Education category.

A new benchmark in solving a complex set of technical requirements while providing an unexpectedly unique and playful environment for its users. Moments of delight are found in this highly technical spatial programme.
