Production Facility

Chitogel - Wellington

Chitogel is a global medical device company offering a leading edge wound healing gel for use in endoscopic sinus surgery. Having received US FDA approval for their gel, Chitogel urgently needed to expand their production facility to meet increased demand and to provide future capacity. Identifying the Blue Mountains Campus in Wallaceville as their preferred location, that offers support and facilities to meet their specific needs, a team of architects, engineers, and construction company was quickly formed to meet the highly compressed programme and to provide the quality of work required for this project.

Facilitated by Willis Bond, the design and construction team identified how the bespoke production plant and equipment could be accommodated in the existing building. Working closely together, Lab-works Architecture, Beca, and LT McGuinness Building Contractors, were able to successfully design and build a cleanroom environment that meets the tight environmental controls required for the manufacture of the medical grade components for the gel. This includes management of the airflows and pressures, filtering for particulate requirements, cleanliness of interior finishes, health and safety considerations, and laboratory functionality. Selection of appropriate materials, integration of Building Management Systems, and provision of specialist services were all co-ordinated and implemented to ensure the project was completed on time and on budget.
