Tāwharau Ora Opening Ceremony
Massey University’s new veterinary science complex has been blessed and is now open for use. Kaumātua Manu Kawana and representatives from Rangitāne o Manawatū led a dawn karakia, waiata. Key members of Tāwharau Ora, the College of Sciences, and those involved in the design and construction, attended the ceremony and walk-through of the new facilities.
Tāwharau Ora is the new student learning building for the School of Veterinary Science which provides modern clinical teaching laboratories. Lab-works Architecture have been the lead architectural team, working with CCM Architects to complete this project, along with the new Post-Mortem & Production Animal Hospital facility.

These modern, fit-for-purpose facilities were designed to meet the demand for a world class veterinary school. Creating a coordinated environment for both students and teaching staff, with adaptable open teaching and common spaces, which accommodate the growing Veterinary School cohort.
ENTRANCE FOYER
A bright, open entrance foyer creates an exciting new space and entrance point. The foyer helps to create break out spaces between teaching spaces, encouraging student interaction and promoting interdisciplinary learning.
TEACHING SPACES
Student learning experiences are enhanced through functional, adaptable spaces. There are two main teaching spaces within the building; the Wet Laboratory and the Dry Teaching Studio.
One of the learning spaces is designed to support students learning anatomy, while the other space provides an open-plan, flexible learning environment to practice the skills they will need in clinical practice.
Lab-works Architecture have been working with Massey University at the Manawatu Campus since 2000 and with the School of Veterinary Science since 2010. Together, Lab-works and Massey University have created new facilities that enable students to learn in a modern environment with safe working practices and animal welfare at the forefront of their experiences.
