The newly completed Heath, Education and Research Collaboration (HERC) Centre at Wellington Hospital includes this Clinical Research Laboratory within the overall facility.
We acted as specialist laboratory consultants to CCM Architects and to Capital & Coast District Health Board to design, document and monitor the construction of this specialised laboratory area.
Comprising a General PC2 lab, PC2 Cell lab, PC3 Tissue lab, along with support spaces including write-up, storage and services, - the design of the laboratory is relatively generic to allow for future flexibility as a research laboratory. Vision and visibility is a key feature, not only for safety but for a feeling of openness.
One of the key constraints on this project was time. We were able to successfully meet the client's requirements for the design and construction of the facility within their compressed timeframe.
The HERC Centre is a collaboration between the CCHDHB and a number of Tertiary Education institutions, and this facility will be mainly used by Victoria University of Wellington for post graduate research.
